Technoscience, Religion & Modernity
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the importance of technoscience, as the long-standing global human production of technologies and sciences, and its relations with religion. We will examine a range of literary and philosophical works from Mary Shelly's Frankenstein to William Gibson's Neuromancer to examine the overlapping of technology, science and religion. We will also study the cinematic works of Stanley Kubrick, in particular 2001: A Space Odyssey and also the philosophical works of Martin Heidegger, Donna Haraway, Andrew Feenberg and Don Ihde.
This course meets Marshall College's significant writing requirement.
Prerequisite Waivers
Submit waiver request via EASy if applicable. Requests to waive RELI 101 course prerequisite will be approved. Requests to waive upper-division standing requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
